Suspension Clamp Questions: Cable Fit, Grip and Deflection

A suspension clamp suspends and supports a wire or cable so it stays fixed to a tower, pole or other support structure. It is intended to prevent the conductor from hanging or shifting under conditions such as wind and temperature changes.

For linear pole towers, a pre-stranded hang wire clip can be used with ADSS cable, OPGW cable and various wires. Its inner and outer layers of spiral pre-stranded wire protect the optical cable, reduce concentrated stress and avoid bending stress. This makes the pre-stranded design relevant where the supported cable needs protection at the suspension point.

The product range described for this application includes bare aluminum wires, aluminum alloy wires, copper wires and optical cables. A suitable clamp is selected according to the wire or cable size and diameter.

For an ADSS or OPGW installation, ask for the pre-stranded hang wire clip configuration. The complete set includes inner and outer pre-stranded wire, a suspension head and matching connecting metal. Send the cable type and outside diameter with your inquiry so the proposed clamp can be matched to the line.

The grip force of the pre-stranded cable clamp is greater than 10% to 20% of the cable's rated tensile strength. The design is intended to hold the cable while avoiding concentrated stress at the suspension point.

The product description also states that the clip can withstand the installation load of the wire in the vertical gear distance. During normal line operation or a line break, the wire clip is not intended to slide or detach from the insulator string.

A hanger clip configuration includes a hanger, U-shaped screws and a hull. Confirm which configuration is required for your line design, because the component set depends on the suspension arrangement.

The clamp is designed for a simple installation. The usual process is to place the wire into the clamp and secure it by tightening the bolt, without complex tools or specialized expertise. The selected clamp still needs to match the cable type and diameter before installation.

For a procurement request, include the conductor or optical cable type, outside diameter and intended suspension arrangement. These details allow the supplier to identify the relevant configuration.

The hanger clamp has a defined maximum deflection angle. When the hull turns far enough, the U-shaped screw is blocked by the hanger. This limiting position is a safe operating condition for the clamp.

The actual maximum angle relates to the wire or ground wire's overhang angle on both sides of the tower suspension point. It also relates to the wire and ground wire diameter, including the thickness of an aluminum wrapping belt or the diameter of a protective line where applicable.

If the required angle is greater than the clamp's maximum deflection angle, possible design measures include using a double wire clip, adjusting the tower height or developing a specially designed wire clip. Provide the two-sided overhang angle and the complete outside diameter when requesting a review.

These fittings are generally made with high-strength, corrosion-resistant materials such as galvanized steel, aluminum alloy or stainless steel. These material options are intended to withstand humidity, salt spray and severe weather conditions while limiting rust and corrosion.

Specify the environmental conditions of the installation and the required material when asking for a quotation, especially for locations exposed to salt spray or persistent humidity.
